TONY ROBBIN A RETROSPECTIVE: 1977 - 2018

"Art based on geometry is expected to be dry with only primary colors - who wrote those rules?" Robbin has said. He was a founding member of the Pattern Painting movement because of his desire for lyric color and rich pattern. "The problem for the space painter is how to depict space without making a painting of telephone poles and railroad tracks receding into the distance; I discovered that using patterns and lattices, superimposed and interwoven, I could create the many spaces in the same space that is the prime formal strategy in my work," said Robbin.
